Veuve Cliquot brand

Based in Reims, France, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin is a popular champagne brand from the French Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne house. Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne house was founded by Philippe Clicquot in 1772 and is among the largest champagne houses in the world, and it specializes in premium products. Philippe Clicquot was a textile businessman, a banker, and a vineyard owner in the Champagne region. He founded Veuve Clicquot as a side business resulting from existing vineyards while focusing on textiles' main business. Philippe Clicquot textile business was successful, so it was for his friend Nicolas Ponsardin. In the quest to consolidate the power of their two textile businesses, Mr. Ponsardin and Mr. Clicquot arranged a wedding between their children François Clicquot and Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin. Eventually, François Clicquot and Ponsardin were married in 1798, June joining the two families. After his marriage, François Clicquot joined his father's business, and the name was changed to "Clicquot-Muiron et Fils."

After François Clicquot joining his father's business, the champagne business started to thrive, and little by little other businesses were dropped. However, after just seven years in marriage, François Clicquot fell suddenly ill and passed on. His father was so devastated with his son died that he thought of liquidating the firm. However, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin went to his father-in-law with a proposal to allow her to manage the business. Philippe Clicquot agreed to her proposal on condition that she becomes an apprentice to learn the business, which she agreed. Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin (Madame Clicquot) entered into an apprenticeship with Alexandre Fourneaux, a winemaker, and learned the business to save her husband's business. She beat all the odds to become the first woman to take charge of one of the famous Champagne houses, becoming the first woman Champagne producer. Madame Clicquot launched her Champagne company in 1810, naming it "Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin" and produced its first vintage champagne. Veuve is a French word for widow since Madame Clicquot was a widow.

Today Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin is a very popular Champagne in the world. Inspired by the quest for modernity and excellence, Madame Clicquot perfected production techniques. She gained a major breakthrough, creating the first known vintage Champagne. In 1816 she invented the riddling table process to clarify Champagne, creating crystal clear champagne. Later on, in 1818, she created the first blended rosé champagne by blending red and white champagne wines. Today many champagne producers employ this process. She shipped her Champagne to many parts of the world. Madame Clicquot introduced her Champagne in royal courts Europe, notably Imperial Russia. Russia loved Madame Clicquot, Champagne, because it was very sweet and became an important drink for celebrations. She played a significant role in marketing her Champagne as a favored drink of nobility and high society in Europe, leading to boon popularity in Russia, Europe, and around the world. To give her brand an outstanding outlook, she introduced the famous, distinctive iconic yellow label of Veuve Clicquot champagne brands. In 1986 Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin was purchased by Louis Vuitton (now part of the LVMH group). In honor of Madame Clicquot's legacy, the company established the La Grande Dame and Businesswomen award.

Veuve Clicquot champagne brand has established itself as one of the world's most famous champagne brand that is globally easily recognizable. Through creativity and innovation values passed on by Madame Clicquot, Veuve Clicquot champagne is continuously innovating and reinventing itself with new cuvees to enhance the enjoyment of its Champagne wines.
