Macallan is a classic Scotch single malt whisky distilled in Craigellachie, Moray by the Macallan Distillery, a subsidiary of the Edrington Group. The Macallan distillery was established in 1824 by two men, Alexander Reid, who was a barley farmer and a teacher in partnership with Ellan Thathors, who was a religious man and was devoted to spreading Christianity. The name Macallan is believed to have been derived from two Gaelic words, 'Magh' and 'Ellan.'
