The name KWV standard for Co-operative Winemakers Union of South Africa (Kooperatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Suid-Afrika). The purpose of the co-operative was to unit South Africa wine farmers, stabilize the young industry during struggle years, and to ensure the quality of South African wines and brandies was improved. It was converted from a co-operative to a company in 1997. Today KWV is a popular producer of classic wine and spirits brand globally. Currently, its headquarters and main production complex are situated in the heart of Cape Winelands in Paarl.
